January Learning Targets
Math Outcomes:
We are working on Fractions, triangular & rectangular prisms, multiplication strategies and graphing.
Fraction outcome:
N8: Demonstrate an understanding of fractions less than or equal to one by using
concrete and pictorial representations to:
N5: Describe and apply mental mathematics strategies, such as:
We will begin to work on
N6: Demonstrate an understanding of multiplication (2- or 3-digit by 1-digit) to solve
problems by:
• using personal strategies for multiplication with and without concrete materials
• using arrays to represent multiplication
• connecting concrete representations to symbolic representations
• estimating products.
Prisms outcome:
SS4: Describe and construct rectangular and triangular prisms.
Language Arts
Reading:
We will be working on developing our skills with the Daily 5 approach to literacy. We are continuing to work on reading and responding to texts using a variety of reading strategies as well as small group work.
Writing: We are working on the traits of writing. We are also working on writing narratives
Science- We are working on Rocks and Minerals
Social Studies- we are currently working on a Science block and then we will do another Social studies block
French- We will be working on basic introductions and basic French vocabulary (days of the week, months of the year, numbers to 50 etc.)
We are working on Fractions, triangular & rectangular prisms, multiplication strategies and graphing.
Fraction outcome:
N8: Demonstrate an understanding of fractions less than or equal to one by using
concrete and pictorial representations to:
- name and record fractions for the parts of a whole or a set
- compare and order fractions
- model and explain that for different wholes, two identical fractions may not represent the same quantity
- provide examples of where fractions are used.
N5: Describe and apply mental mathematics strategies, such as:
- skip counting from a known fact
- using doubling or halving
- using doubling or halving and adding or subtracting one more group
We will begin to work on
